- How is the Ronald McDonald House of Dallas
funded?
Ninety percent of the funds needed to operate the Ronald McDonald House
come from the Dallas community through generous individuals, corporations
and community/civic groups. The Trains at NorthPark is a spectacular
exhibit operated during the holiday season that also raises funds for
the Ronald McDonald House, and Southwest Airlines sponsors the annual
LUV Classic which benefits the House. Ronald McDonald House Charities
of Greater North Texas, McDonald's Corporation, and the local McDonald's
Owner/Operator Association contribute approximately 10% of the annual
operating budget.
- What is the relationship between McDonald's
and the Ronald McDonald House?
McDonald's provided an initial seed grant of $25,000 to build the Dallas
Ronald McDonald House through the Ray Kroc Foundation now called Ronald
McDonald House Charities (RMHC). The Ronald McDonald House of Dallas
is not owned by McDonald's. Each Ronald McDonald House is autonomous
and is its own nonprofit corporation. The Ronald McDonald House of
Dallas receives approximately 10% of its annual operating budget from
RMHC and 90% from the local community.

- Who can stay?
Seriously ill or injured children who are under the age of 19 years
who are receiving treatment at a Dallas area hospital, and their
immediate family may be referred to Ronald McDonald House of Dallas.

Dallas. A referral must be made by a social worker at the facility
where the child is being treated or a Medicaid (Medical Transportation)
worker. All adults staying in the house must have current photo
identification.
- How much does it cost?
The Ronald McDonald House of Dallas requests a donation of $10 per
night per room. This includes lodging, meals, laundry facilities,
and other services. If this presents a hardship for a family, arrangements
can be made with the Manager on Duty.
- How to apply?
The initial referral must be made by a social worker where the child
is being treated in Dallas, or a Medicaid (Medical Transportation)
worker. With the exception of Medicaid, we cannot guarantee placement
until the day of need.
Returning families may put their name on our waiting list and call
to verify availability the day placement is needed. Ronald McDonald
House reserves the right to verify appointments with the medical service
provider.

House?
The House is accessible to families 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

a day, at 8am, 10am, 12pm, 2:30pm, 5:30pm and 8:30pm to Parkland, Children's
Medical Center and Texas Scottish Rite Hospital. Baylor Hospital and
Our Children's House operates its own shuttle for our families. It

The best way for students to help us is to collect items for our
wish list.

at RMHD?
We do not offer opportunities to fulfill these requirements.

The best way for large groups to help us is by collecting items
for our wish list.
- What if we have scheduled a volunteer activity and find we
are unable to keep our commitment?
Please call the Volunteer Coordinator at 214-631-7354 as soon as you
know you will be unable to make it.

- Do the pop tabs that I donate to the Ronald
McDonald House pay for a child's chemotherapy?
Unlike the urban legend states, pop tabs do not support medical treatment
of any kind including chemotherapy or dialysis; however, pop tabs do
support the operations of Ronald McDonald House. This popular fundraiser
benefits seriously ill children by helping provide a place for them
and their families to stay while they are out of town for medical treatment.
- Why do I only collect the pop tabs and
not the entire can?
The tab of an aluminum can is pure aluminum unlike the rest of the
can, which contains paint and other residue. Pop tabs are small and
convenient to collect. Hundreds of thousands of pop tabs have been
collected to benefit Ronald McDonald Houses.
- What do I do with the Pop Tabs I collect?
The Ronald McDonald House of Dallas does not have the space or resources
to collect individual pop tabs. If you would like to host a collection,
we ask that you do the following:
- Collect and store the pop tabs
Upon availability, the Ronald McDonald House of Dallas can provide
collection boxes for your pop tabs or you can create your own
collection containers.
- Have the tabs recycled in your community and mail
the proceeds to us or use them to purchase items on our Wish List.
- Can I donate gently used items to the Ronald McDonald
House?
Unfortunately, we cannot accept any used items. Due to the health
requirements of our children, all of our donations need to be new
and unused.
